Temporary Change to Redistricting Congressional Seats

Plain-English Summary

Proposition 50 is a ballot measure that proposes a temporary change to the process of redistricting congressional seats in California. It would alter the current system where an independent commission draws district lines.

What each outcome does

IF YES PASSES

If Proposition 50 passes, the power to draw congressional district lines would be temporarily removed from the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission. This power would be transferred to politicians until the commission resumes its role in 2031.

IF NO PASSES

If Proposition 50 fails, the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission would retain its authority to draw congressional district lines. The process would not be temporarily changed to allow politicians to draw the districts.
