Save Our Homes From Excessive Property Taxes

Plain-English Summary

This amendment proposes to significantly cut homestead property taxes across Florida. It would exempt the first $250,000 of a homestead's value from most taxes, with a future plan for full elimination of these taxes, and limit property tax assessment increases on businesses.

What each outcome does

IF YES PASSES

If the amendment passes, long-term Florida homeowners would see a larger homestead exemption, shielding more of their home's value from property taxes (excluding school taxes), resulting in a smaller tax bill starting in 2027. For non-homestead properties, the cap on annual assessment increases would drop from 10% to 5%.

IF NO PASSES

If the amendment fails, the current property tax system would remain in place. Homestead exemptions would not increase, and the existing caps on property tax assessment increases would continue.
